The first million seller to be released in the 21st Century was a comeback single for Jamaican-born reggae star Shaggy. He had two Number 1 hits in the Nineties (Oh Carolina in 1993 and Boombastic in 1995.
After huge success in America, It Wasn’t Me sold on import sales, reaching as high as Number 31 before a full release saw it fly straight to the top of the charts. It sold 345,000 copies in its first week on sale. It only stayed there for one week but then spent five weeks at Number 2.
His next single, Angel, also reached Number 1. During 2001 he sold nearly two million singles in the UK.
