Blue Monday is the biggest-selling 12-inch single. The band was formed after tragic circumstances from the members of Joy Division. In 1983 New Order released Blue Monday. The track was over seven minutes long wand arrived at a time when an emergent dance scene was building in Manchester. Initial units of the album were made bespoke and lost the label 10p for each unit.
It originally peaked at Number 12 and then later reached Number 9. It was re-released in 1988 with a remix and it peaked at Number 3. It is regularly remixed by DJs and so the song continues to sell.
