Umbrella was the song which turned Rihanna from a star into a megastar!

During the rainiest summer in years, Umbrella was at the top of the chart for ten weeks – incredibly rare for a single to have such an extended run during the 2000s.

By the end of the year (finishing as the second biggest seller of the year) the song had sales of over 600,000.

In June 2016 combined sales were reported in Music Week as 929,979.

In July 2017 sales were recorded as 867,600 and 15.8 million streams.

In August 2017 sales were recorded as 901,799 and, “If you include streams, she’s topped a million”. So we estimate that the combined millionth sale was made in around May 2017.

In September 2017 combined sales were recorded as 1,040,966.

In March 2018 combined sales were reported as 1.1 million.
