One Kiss entered the chart at Number 3 before climbing to Number 1 where it stayed for eight weeks. The song spent twelve weeks in the Top Ten altogether.

In early July 2018 the song had sales of 949,000.

These Days was released in February 2018. It was clear that it was a classic from the moment it was released. Somehow sounding brand new, yet also like you’ve heard it a million times before. The song reached Number 2 on its third week on sale. It stayed at Number 2 for seven weeks in a row, matching the record shared by All-4-One ‘I Swear’ and Maroon 5 ‘Feels Like Jagger‘.

Sales remained consistent during this time where it played second fiddle to God’s Plan. When God’s Plan fell from the top, These Days moved up to claim the Number 1 place it deserved. It was at Number 1 for just one week. Altogether it spent 15 weeks in the Top 20.

In July 2018 the song had sales of 1.03 million.

Rick Astley – Never Gonna Give You Up

An enduring classic pop song, Never Gonna Give You Up finally became a million seller including streams in around 2015, but sold enough physical copies and downloads to become an official million seller in June 2018.

Rick Astley’s debut hit, Never Gonna Give You Up climbed up the charts and reached Number 1 on its fourth week on sale. It stayed at Number 1 for five weeks.

The song sold in huge quantities and was the best selling song of 1987.

In 2008 the song became an internet sensation after ‘Rickrolling‘ became a popular practical joke. People began sending people links which redirected them to the video of Never Gonna Give You Up on YouTube instead.

By September 2017 combined sales were reported as 1.12 million including 997,000 sales and 123,000 streams.

The song finally sold enough downloads to become an official million seller in June 2018.

LMFAO had already scored a massive hit with Party Rock Anthem. Their next hit was to quietly sell in its droves too. Sexy And I Know It peaked at Number 5 on its third week on sale in October 2011. The song spent seven weeks in the Top Ten but enjoyed 23 weeks altogether in the Top 20. It had a chart run of 61 weeks in the Top 100.

The song was really popular with children, teenagers and students.

By June 2015 the song was in the Top 40 biggest selling singles of the decade.

In September 2017 the song had over a million combined sales (1.063 in fact) – including 999,080 downloads.

In June 2018 the song had reached a million sales on downloads alone.

This is DJ Khaled’s first million seller, and yet another one for Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

We estimate that the combined millionth copy was ‘sold’ in around June 2018.

Inexplicably God’s Plan spent nine weeks at Number 1 in 2018. The song is remarkable in that it doesn’t have a melody and hurts your ears.

Avicii – Levels

PEAK POSITION: Number 4 in December 2011 and January 2012 (Chart History)

Levels was a song that was over a year in the making. The vocal was added in around March 2011 (sampled from an Etta James song) and the song was eventually released around the world in October 2011 and first charted in the UK in December.

Whilst the song was still charting, Flo Rida released ‘Good Feeling’ which was primarily based on Levels.

By July 2013 the single was being announced as a platinum selling single.

The song performed well on streaming services and by April 2018 the single had reached a million combined sales. This coincided with the producer’s sad death and the song charted at Number 36.

Alan Jones of Music Week wrote:

A third artist to reach the three-track limit is Swedish DJ Avicii, who died last Friday (April 20), aged 28. Consumption of Avicii recordings in the latest frame amounted to 11,097 albums, and 279,392 tracks. His hits Wake Me Up (No.1, 2013), Levels (No.4, 2011) and Hey Brother (No.2, 2013) re-enter at No.26 (15,708 sales), No.36 (11,992 sales) and No.43 (9,683 sales), respectively. He also has album chart re-entries with True (No.2, 2013) and Stories (No.9, 2015), at No.14 (4,690 sales) and No.17 (3,325 sales), respectively. Cumulative Avicii sales are: singles – 10,061,500, albums – 521,420. Calvin Harris’ sixth Number 1 single had himself on vocals again.

Timed perfectly for the Summer, the song entered the chart at Number 1 and then stayed in the Top Ten for five weeks. It stayed in the Top 100 for 32 weeks. The song continued to stream well for a few years afterwards.

On April 20th 2018 Music Week reported:

Harris’ 2014 chart-topper Summer became his fourth million-seller last week in a list topped (naturally) by 2011 Rihanna collaboration, We Found Love, which has sold 1,780,814 copies. Cumulative UK consumption of Harris tracks, including sales-equivalent streams stand at 17,581,366.

In April 2018 combined sales were confirmed as being just over one million.

Rihanna featuring Drake – What’s My Name?

Rihanna teamed up with Drake in 2010. Back then he was a relative newcomer and tended to sing with more of a tune.

The single was released in November 2010 and reached Number 2 at the end of December and it stayed there for three weeks before spending a week at the top in January 2011.

The single spent ten weeks in the Top Ten.

In June 2017 sales were reported as 855,000.

On April 6th 2018 Music Week’s Alan Jones reported that the single would cross the million seller threshold the following week:

Despite suffering an extremely negative reaction after his 2009 conviction for domestic violence against Rihanna, [Chris] Brown has accumulated 52 UK hits, including at least one a year for each of the last 13 years, and has staggering UK single sales (including sales-equivalent streams) of 19,444,840. For the record, Rihanna’s tally is an even more spectacular 36,881,585, with 2010 Drake collaboration What’s My Name set to become her 13th million seller next week.

Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love

PEAK POSITION: Number 5 in January 2010 (Chart History)

You’ve Got The Love is a cover of one of the most remixed songs of all time – Candi Staton’s You Got The Love. Originally released in 1986, Staton’s version was mashed with Frankie Knuckles’ Your Love in 1991 becoming a dancefloor classic, reaching Number 4.

The song has been remixed and covered various times over the years. But the biggest cover version ever was released in August 2009 and was performed by Florence + The Machine.

The single climbed the charts slowly, finally peaking at Number 5 for a week in January 2016 (it was used to soundtrack a pivotal moment in the Gavin & Stacey finale).

In February 2010 the song was performed as You Got The Dirtee Love with Dizzee Rascal at The Brits (it was a mash up of You’ve Got The Love and Dirtee Cash). The song was released as a single and it peaked at Number 2.

By August 2010 the song was still in the Top 100.

The song was continued to be streamed over the years. Finally, after around ten years on sale the song sold its combined millionth copy.

Little Mix – Touch

Touch was the second single from Little Mix’s 2016 album Glory Days after Shout Out To My Ex. It was launched in December 2016 and started a a little slowly, despite a high profile launch on The X Factor. By Christmas it was at Number 4 where it stayed for three weeks. After two weeks outside the Top 4, it then returned to Number 4 for another three weeks in February 2017.

The single was still in the Top 100 in the Summer. It continued to be streamed by fans long after leaving the charts.

It probably had its combined millionth sale in around March 2018.

In August 2017 sales were reported as 910,000.

The single has continued to be a popular radio song and party song. Therefore it has performed well with streaming. By March 2013 the combined sales figure was 1.03 million.

Jax Jones featuring RAYE – You Don’t Know Me

By the end of the year the single was being announced as the tenth biggest selling single of the year with sales of just under 1 million.

In February 2018 combined sales were confirmed as 1.04 million.

Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug – Havana

On its 13th week on sale it finally reached Number 1 where it stayed for five weeks altogether. It enjoyed 14 weeks in the Top Ten before falling out in the week before Christmas. It climbed back into the Top Ten for a week in January 2018.

We estimate that the single sold its combined millionth copy at sometime in January 2018.

As of March 2018 the single was still in the Top 30.

Justin Timberlake – Mirrors

PEAK POSITION: Number 1 for three weeks in March 2013 (Chart History)

Mirrors was the second single from Justin Timberlake’s 2013 album The 20/20 Experience. The first, Suit & Tie, was released in January. Mirrors was quickly released a few weeks later and entered the chart at Number 28 before rising to Number 4.

Tiumberlake then performed the song at The Brit Awards and it suddenly caught on in a big way and it leaped to Number 1 where is stayed for three weeks altogether.

It enjoyed eight weeks in the Top 10 and it didn’t leave the Top 100 until October that year.

The song is quite unusual in that it was over 8 minutes long and did not, at first, have a radio edit, meaning that radio stations had to fade it out.

By November 2016 the single had combined sales of 929,000.

In January 2018 the OCC announced that combined sales were just over 1 million.

Dua Lipa – New Rules

Dua Lipa was a rising star in 2015 and 2016. It was 2017 when she crossed over into superstar status.

New Rules entered the chart at Number 75 and climbed steadily, reaching the top spot on its sixth week on sale. It stayed there for two weeks altogether. It spent eleven weeks in the Top 10 and by the end of February 2018 the song was still in the Top 40.

We estimate that the single ‘sold’ its combined millionth copy during December 2017.

Ed Sheeran – Perfect

Ed Sheeran’s Perfect entered the chart at Number in March 2017 as an album track when he released his third album, Divide. It spent 17 weeks on the chart on its initial chart run.

It dropped out of the chart in July 2017 after the Official Charts Company amended their chart compiling rules to stop artists having more than three singles charting at the same time. As he was promoting Shape Of You, Castle On The Hill and Galway Girl, Perfect was pushed out of the chart for a couple of months (although, had it been allowed to chart, it would have.)

In September 2017 the single was promoted to single proper and it re-entered at Number 77 where it gradually climbed. It was announced as a platinum seller as it commenced its second chart run.

Dance remixes were released in November 2017.

He announced that he had collaborated with a world class artist to ‘remix’ the track. The identity of the artist was eventually revealed to be Beyonce. By mid-December the single was at Number 1, Ed’s fourth.

The single made its combined millionth sale in mid-December 2017.

Music Week’s Alan Jones wrote:

Ed Sheeran’s Perfect may have moved to the chart summit anyway, but it became a nailed-on certainty once the duet version of the track, featuring Beyonce, was released. The Beyonce version drove consumption of the track to increase 174.90% week-on-week to 89,359 sales (including 45,460 from sales-equivalent streams) as it became Sheeran’s second No.1 from ÷ – following Shape Of You – and his fourth No.1 in total. With to-date sales of 1,048,313. it becomes Sheeran’s 10th million-selling single.

At this point he announced his determination that he wanted it to claim the Christmas Number 1 single.

He then dropped a second ‘remix’ with opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Perfect did, indeed, claim the Christmas Number 1. In fact the song stayed at Number 1 into January 2018.

The Chainsmokers & Coldplay – Something Just Like This

Something Just Like This was debuted at the 2017 Brit Awards at the end of February 2017. The song entered the charts at Number 30 before rocketing up to Number 2 the next week.

The song is a collaboration between Coldplay and dance act The Chainsmokers and had incredible crossover appeal.

It stayed in the Top Ten for nine weeks.

After an incredible performance at the One Love Manchester concert at the start of June 2017 the song climbed back up to Number 16.

The single continued to stream well and by the end of November we estimate that the millionth combined sale was made.
